    Focusing on the mechanism of the abnormal phenomenon of rail corrugation on the low rail of small-radius curve section of Guangzhou–Zhuhai intercity railway, the distribution regularities and the track irregularities are studied through the overall and local field surveys. Then, the dynamic model of vehicle-track system on the section is established to explore the wheel-rail dynamic characteristics. Next, the relevant finite element model of the wheel-rail system and the wear model of rail corrugation are established. The friction self-excited vibration analysis and feedback vibration analysis are carried out to investigate the dynamic causes of such abnormal rail corrugation. Field survey proposes that the dominant wavelength of the abnormal rail corrugation is 200–300 mm and the sub-wavelength is 70–100 mm. Analyses show that the friction self-excited vibration of the multi-wheelset-track system caused by the saturated creep force on the guide wheelset in the small-radius section may induce the rail corrugations with these two wavelengths. The possibility of inducing the rail corrugation with 200–300 mm wavelength is greater. On the other hand, the feedback vibration of corrugated wear will aggravate the development of the two corrugated wears. Overall, the generation and development of the abnormal rail corrugations are affected by the self-excited vibration of the wheel-rail system and the feedback vibration of track irregularity.

    To accommodate exponentially increasing traffic demands, operators are seeking to offload cellular traffic to small base stations (BSs) in heterogeneous cellular networks (HCNs), which is promising in alleviating traffic congestion. In HCNs, operators are eager to balance the traffic globally, where users may be pushed to less preferred small BSs, resulting in possible conflict with user local preference. Thus, it is a big challenge to achieve dynamic load balancing for operators and provide participation incentive for users simultaneously. Due to the dynamics of network state and user traffic demand, we are inspired to utilize Lyapunov optimization to develop a congestion-aware cellular offloading scheme. Specifically, an operator profit maximization problem involving network selection and rate control is formulated. To achieve long-term network stability, we propose a congestion-aware network selection algorithm, obtaining the BS alternative set that maintains traffic congestion constraint. By exploring the heterogeneity of user quality sensitivity, we devise the optimal quality-price contract, which maximizes operator profit. With effective pricing and resource allocation, users are motivated to make proper association strategy chosen from the BS alternative set. Simulation results demonstrate the effectiveness of our scheme in improving operator profit. User incentive and network stability are also validated.

    AbstractThis research considers the effects of air transport on economic growth and asks how airport development affects regional convergence across three Chinese macro‐regions. A growing body of research has examined national aviation‐growth relationships in developing countries over the last decade. Yet few studies have sought to determine whether air transport boosts regional development, especially in developing and emerging economies. Using a dataset spanning from 2005 to 2017, and drawing on panel data regression and instrumental variable analyses, we provide empirical evidence that air transport drives economic growth in China and its macro‐regions. However, we find no major synergy across air, high‐speed rail, and waterway transport as drivers of economic growth at national and regional levels. Furthermore, air transport has a significant effect in widening China’s per capita income disparity. On that basis, we suggest Chinese local governments should carefully consider equity‐efficiency trade‐offs and provincial and municipal conditions and regional contexts when planning new airports, increasing airport services, or extending aviation connectivity. Others elsewhere may derive insights from these findings.

    In the context of ecological civil construction in China, afforestation is highly valued. Planting trees can improve air quality in China's large cities. However, there is a lack of scientific analysis quantifying the impact urban forest scale has on the air quality, and what scale is advisable. The problem still exists of subjective decision-making in afforestation. Similar studies have rarely analyzed the long-term effect research of urban forests on air improvement. Using as an example, the city of Wuhan, this paper identifies the regularity between particulate matter concentration and adsorption of sample leaves, and establishes a system dynamics model of "economy, energy and atmospheric environment.&rdquo By combining this regularity with the model, the long-term impact of forest scale on particulate matter and atmospheric environment was simulated. The results show that if the forest coverage rate reaches at least 30%, the annual average concentrations of inhalable particulate matter (PM10) and fine particulate matter (PM2.5) can both reach the Grade I limit of national Ambient Air Quality Standard by 2050. The current forest cover is 22.9% of the administrative area. Increasing the forest cover by 600 km2 would increase this percentage to 30% of the total area. In the long run (by the year 2050), however, we showed that this increase would only reduce the annual concentration of PM2.5 and PM10 by 1&ndash 2%. Therefore, about 90% of the concentration reduction would still rely on the traditional emission reduction measures. More other ecological functions of forests should be considered in afforestation plan.

    Energy storage system (ESS) possesses tremendous potential to counter both the rapid growth of intermittent renewable energy resources (RESs) and provide frequency support to the microgrid (MG). Since the deployment of ESS has overcome the imbalance between generation and consumption, however, their massive cost, as well as degradation tendency, are the restricting considerations that demand alternative solutions to provide stable microgrid operation. To assist ESS, the electric vehicles (EVs) are incorporated into the system. EVs have been gradually commercially viable and considerable focus has been paid to vehicle-to-grid technologies. Appropriate collaboration between ESS and EVs has good capability to manage the frequency irregularities to ensure the efficient operation of the MG. This article presents a novel combination of two control techniques i.e., model predictive control (MPC) and adaptive droop control (ADC), to tackle the frequency regulation issue in the isolated MG, by effectively controlling the ESS and EVs during the large-scale integration of RESs or huge change in load demand. Firstly, the MPC regulates the ESS according to the system frequency deviation, and secondly, the ADC manages the power of EVs according to system specifications by retaining the least possible power for potential usage of EVs. Moreover, an advanced genetic algorithm is applied to tune the MPC and ADC parameters in order to achieve optimized performance. An isolated MG is modeled and verified in MATLAB/Simulink using the above-mentioned control techniques. Further, different case studies are taken into account to validate the combination of ADC and MPC for frequency regulation of an isolated MG. Additionally, the proposed MPC controller is compared with fuzzy logic proportional-integral (FPI) controller and proportional-integral (PI) controller, the MPC provides better performance results as compared with FPI and PI controllers.

    The physical characteristics of blocks have an important impact on the migration and deposition in landslides, so the damage of landslides to the surrounding environment often has great uncertainty. To explore how the physical properties of blocks affect the landslide movement, we used Compaq Visual Fortran software with a DDA program to simulate the movement of a block landslide in our study. The velocity and location changes of two types of blocks (triangular and square blocks) were simulated by comparison. The contents of the simulation included the following points: (1) the influence of block density and weight on migration, (2) the influence of the elastic-slip characteristics and spring penalty coefficient on velocity, and (3) interaction between block vertices and the sliding surface. The results showed how the shape and physical properties of the blocks affect the migration of those blocks. Although the triangular blocks appeared to be more stable than the square blocks, they only exhibited greater stability on the gentle slope. The weight and elastic modulus of the blocks could improve the velocity and destructive force, whereas the spring penalty coefficient between the blocks and the contact surface had an obscure effect on the velocity. However, the changes of the above three parameters all led to non-linear changes of velocity. The simulation results indicated that the blocks with different numbers of edges and surfaces had complex trajectories because of contact frequency and mobility. The results show that the physical properties of the blocks could be one of the factors that could ultimately change the displacement of landslides.

    Abstract Smart City has become the direction of the development of city. Telemedicine is an important part of Smart City. Telemedicine always provides clinical health care according to the medical images of the patient. High resolution images are expected for remote diagnosis. Super-resolution technology can improve the resolution of medical images. Recently, sparse coding based super-resolution has attracted more attentions. Sparse coding based super-resolution tries to find the sparse representation of low-resolution (LR) image patches from low resolution dictionary, then reconstructs high-resolution (HR) image patches using sparse representation and HR dictionary. In this paper, we propose a sparse-based scheme for medical image super-resolution. First, we jointly divide the training patches into several clusters. Multiple dictionaries are learned from each cluster to collectively provide the least super-resolution error for the training patches. Second, random forest is trained based on the training patches and their cluster labels. Finally, for an input LR image patches, we use trained random forest to determine which cluster the patch belong to, then use the corresponding dictionary to reconstruct the patch. Thus, all the input LR patches are reconstructed with smallest error. All the reconstructed HR patches are synthesized into a completed HR image. The proposed scheme is applied to test a set of medical images. Experimental results show that both objective evaluation (PSNR) and subjective evaluation (visual effect) are improved when compare to other example-based methods.

    Planned special events attract thousands of attendees from nearby cities or suburbia by car and transit. In most cases, the majority of attendees use personal automobiles, and a high parking demand results in a short time, with a consequent parking shortage. Parking guidance information systems can solve the problem by displaying information on parking lot availability to dynamically divert vehicles. This study focused on optimizing dynamic parking guidance information for automobile drivers at special events. An original multimode traffic network was converted to a novel network by considering parking lots as dummy links; therefore the shortest path and traffic assignment could be implemented in this extended network. A bilevel programming model based on quasi-dynamic route choice and linear programming was proposed to optimize the dynamic parking guidance information. On the basis of travelers' reaction to the guidance, stochastic dynamic user optimal route choice was employed within the lower-level model. The upper-level model was a linear program aimed at minimizing network total travel time. The solutions of the bilevel programming model were based on discrete particle swarm optimization and the method of successive average algorithms. Results of a case study implemented with a hypothetical network indicated that the optimization model could reduce the system total travel time by 4%.

    The fine classification of land cover around complex mining areas is important for environmental protection and sustainable development. Although some advances have been made in the utilization of high-resolution remote sensing imagery and classification algorithms, the following issues still remain: (1) how the multimodal spectral–spatial and topographic features can be learned for complex mining areas; (2) how the key features can be extracted; and (3) how the contextual information can be captured among different features. In this study, we proposed a novel model comprising the following three main strategies: (1) design comprising a three-stream multimodal feature learning and post-fusion method; (2) integration of deep separable asymmetric convolution blocks and parallel channel and spatial attention mechanisms into the DenseNet architecture; and (3) use of a bidirectional long short-term memory (BiLSTM) network to further learn cross-channel context features. The experiments were carried out in Wuhan City, China using ZiYuan-3 imagery. The proposed model was found to exhibit a better performance than other models, with an overall accuracy of 98.65% ± 0.05% and an improvement of 4.03% over the basic model. In addition, the proposed model yielded an obviously better visual prediction map for the entire study area. Overall, the proposed model is beneficial for multimodal feature learning and complex landscape applications.

    Focusing on the mechanism of the abnormal phenomenon of rail corrugation on the low rail of small-radius curve section of Guangzhou–Zhuhai intercity railway, the distribution regularities and the track irregularities are studied through the overall and local field surveys. Then, the dynamic model of vehicle-track system on the section is established to explore the wheel-rail dynamic characteristics. Next, the relevant finite element model of the wheel-rail system and the wear model of rail corrugation are established. The friction self-excited vibration analysis and feedback vibration analysis are carried out to investigate the dynamic causes of such abnormal rail corrugation. Field survey proposes that the dominant wavelength of the abnormal rail corrugation is 200–300 mm and the sub-wavelength is 70–100 mm. Analyses show that the friction self-excited vibration of the multi-wheelset-track system caused by the saturated creep force on the guide wheelset in the small-radius section may induce the rail corrugations with these two wavelengths. The possibility of inducing the rail corrugation with 200–300 mm wavelength is greater. On the other hand, the feedback vibration of corrugated wear will aggravate the development of the two corrugated wears. Overall, the generation and development of the abnormal rail corrugations are affected by the self-excited vibration of the wheel-rail system and the feedback vibration of track irregularity.

    To accommodate exponentially increasing traffic demands, operators are seeking to offload cellular traffic to small base stations (BSs) in heterogeneous cellular networks (HCNs), which is promising in alleviating traffic congestion. In HCNs, operators are eager to balance the traffic globally, where users may be pushed to less preferred small BSs, resulting in possible conflict with user local preference. Thus, it is a big challenge to achieve dynamic load balancing for operators and provide participation incentive for users simultaneously. Due to the dynamics of network state and user traffic demand, we are inspired to utilize Lyapunov optimization to develop a congestion-aware cellular offloading scheme. Specifically, an operator profit maximization problem involving network selection and rate control is formulated. To achieve long-term network stability, we propose a congestion-aware network selection algorithm, obtaining the BS alternative set that maintains traffic congestion constraint. By exploring the heterogeneity of user quality sensitivity, we devise the optimal quality-price contract, which maximizes operator profit. With effective pricing and resource allocation, users are motivated to make proper association strategy chosen from the BS alternative set.     AbstractThis research considers the effects of air transport on economic growth and asks how airport development affects regional convergence across three Chinese macro‐regions. A growing body of research has examined national aviation‐growth relationships in developing countries over the last decade. Yet few studies have sought to determine whether air transport boosts regional development, especially in developing and emerging economies. Using a dataset spanning from 2005 to 2017, and drawing on panel data regression and instrumental variable analyses, we provide empirical evidence that air transport drives economic growth in China and its macro‐regions. However, we find no major synergy across air, high‐speed rail, and waterway transport as drivers of economic growth at national and regional levels. Furthermore, air transport has a significant effect in widening China’s per capita income disparity. On that basis, we suggest Chinese local governments should carefully consider equity‐efficiency trade‐offs and provincial and municipal conditions and regional contexts when planning new airports, increasing airport services, or extending aviation connectivity. Others elsewhere may derive insights from these findings.

    In the context of ecological civil construction in China, afforestation is highly valued. Planting trees can improve air quality in China's large cities. However, there is a lack of scientific analysis quantifying the impact urban forest scale has on the air quality, and what scale is advisable. The problem still exists of subjective decision-making in afforestation. Similar studies have rarely analyzed the long-term effect research of urban forests on air improvement. Using as an example, the city of Wuhan, this paper identifies the regularity between particulate matter concentration and adsorption of sample leaves, and establishes a system dynamics model of "economy, energy and atmospheric environment.&rdquo By combining this regularity with the model, the long-term impact of forest scale on particulate matter and atmospheric environment was simulated. The results show that if the forest coverage rate reaches at least 30%, the annual average concentrations of inhalable particulate matter (PM10) and fine particulate matter (PM2.5) can both reach the Grade I limit of national Ambient Air Quality Standard by 2050. The current forest cover is 22.9% of the administrative area. Increasing the forest cover by 600 km2 would increase this percentage to 30% of the total area. In the long run (by the year 2050), however, we showed that this increase would only reduce the annual concentration of PM2.5 and PM10 by 1&ndash 2%. Therefore, about 90% of the concentration reduction would still rely on the traditional emission reduction measures. More other ecological functions of forests should be considered in afforestation plan.
