    The aim of this project is to describe the development of the high-speed railway in France, the traffic and technical characteristics of the railway, its infrastructure and the various characteristics that characterize it. The project was created with a methodological approach of literature analysis on the relevant topic. The high-speed rail network began its development in France in the 1970s. The introduction of highspeed railways in France was an immediate success, competing with many forms of transport, one of which was air transport. High-speed rail in France achieved great success during the 1980s and 1990s, especially by public authorities who saw it as an initiator of economic development. Trains operating on the LGV railway in France transport about 110 million passengers every year, and in 2013 it was recorded that 2 billion passengers traveled on TGV trains since the beginning of the operation of the high-speed railway in France. Improvements to the LGV railway can take the form of new track construction, which is a strictly standardized process with precisely defined components and steps to make high-speed trains in France run in the safest possible way, or in the form of new TGV train models. Cilj ovog rada je opisati razvoj željeznice za brze vlakove u Francuskoj, prometne i tehničke karakteristike te željeznice, njezinu infrastrukturu i različite karakteristike koje je obilježavaju. Rad je nastao metodološkim pristupom analize literature o relevantnoj temi. Mreža željeznica za brze vlakove započela je svoj razvoj u Francuskoj 1970-ih godina. Uvođenje željeznice za brze vlakove u Francuskoj odmah je predstavilo ogroman uspjeh, te je konkuriralo mnogim vrstama prometa, od kojih je jedan bio i zračni promet. Željeznica za brze vlakove u Francuskoj postigla je velik uspjeh tijekom 1980-ih i 1990-ih godina, pogotovo od strane javnih vlasti koje su je smatrale pokretačem ekonomskog razvoja. Vlakovi koji prometuju LGV željeznicom u Francuskoj svake godine prevezu oko 110 milijuna putnika, te je 2013. zabilježeno kako je TGV vlakovima putovalo 2 milijarde putnika od početka rada željeznice za brze vlakove u Francuskoj.Unaprjeđenja LGV željeznice mogu biti u obliku izgradnje novih kolosijeka, što predstavlja strogo standardizirani proces s točno određenim komponentama i koracima kako bi brzi vlakovi u Francuskoj prometovali na najsigurniji mogući način, ili u obliku novih modela TGV vlakova.

    The paper briefly describes the historical development of high speed railways in the world, more specifically in Japan. The general infrastructure features of high-speed rail are mentioned and explained, particularly the track and rail fastening accessories used in Japan. It describes the railway station in Tokyo and the Seikan underwater tunnel connecting the islands of Honshu and Hokkaido. The trains that run Shinkansen lines and make the high-speed railway fleet in Japan are also mentioned and explained. U radu je ukratko opisan povijesni razvoj željeznica velikih brzina u svijetu, a opširnije u Japanu. Navedene su i objašnjene općenite infrastrukturne značajke željeznica velikih brzina, a posebno su objašnjeni kolosijeci te kolosiječni pričvrsni pribor koji se koristi u Japanu. Opisan je kolodvor u Tokyu i podvodni tunel Seikan koji povezuje otoke Honshu i Hokkaido. Opisani su vlakovi koji prometuju Shinkansen linijama i čine vozni park željeznica velikih brzina u Japanu.

    The main goal of this paper is to identify basic characteristics, and development of high-speed railway in Europe and in the world, and to describe the development of the network, infrastructure and high-speed train network in France. Based on the collected data it can be concluded that the high-speed railways in Europe were developed in the early 1980s in France. The high-speed network in France is well developed and is second in Europe, behind Spain, with the number of kilometres of high-speed rail. With the development of high-speed trains, the need for upgrading and development of the railway infrastructure has emerged. The French network is in a state of permanent change and is constantly upgraded and modernized to enhance the mobility of passengers and freight transport and to increase traffic safety. The French passenger operator today owns the highest speed trains and has a train that has set the world record in speed. Cilj rada je utvrditi temeljne značajke, nastanak i razvoj brzih željeznica u Europi i svijetu te opisati razvoj mreže, infrastrukturne značajke i vozni park brzih željeznica u Francuskoj. Na temelju prikupljenih podataka može se zaključiti da su se brze željeznice u Europi razvile početkom osamdesetih godina u Francuskoj. Mreža brzih željeznica u Francuskoj je dobro razvijena i nalazi se na drugom mjestu u Europi iza Španjolske po broju kilometara pruge velikih brzina. Razvojem vlakova velikih brzina javila se potreba za nadogradnjom i razvojem željezničke infrastrukture te je Francuska mreža u stanju trajne promjene i redovito se modernizira i nadograđuje kako bi se poboljšala mobilnost putnika i prijevoza robe te kako bi se povedala sigurnost prometovanja. Francuski operator za prijevoz putnika danas posjeduje najviše vlakova velikih brzina te posjeduje vlak koji je postavio svjetski brzinski rekord.

    The paper describes the historical development of high-speed railways in Europe, while the development in Germany is described in more detail. The development of railway infrastructure, infrastructural features and rolling stock in Germany is described. Based on research, we can conclude that high-speed railways first appeared in Japan in 1930. France was the first European country to develop high-speed railways in the early 1980s, while Germany developed them in the 1990s. Thanks to the great advantages of high-speed trains, the high-speed rail network in Germany developed very quickly. It is currently one of the leading forces in the field. Thanks to its development, there was a great demand for further improvement of the trains and the network in order to achieve the greatest possible passenger comfort, the number of transported passengers, the easiest and most efficient transport of goods and the greatest possible safety. U radu je opisan povijesni razvoj željeznica velikih brzina u Europi, dok je opširnije opisan razvoj u Njemačkoj. Opisan je razvoj željezničke infrastrukture, infrastrukturne značajke i vozni park u Njemačkoj. Na temelju istraživanja možemo zaključiti da su se brze željeznice prvo pojavile u Japanu 1930. godine. Francuska je bila prva europska zemlja koja je počela razvijati željeznice velikih brzina početkom osamdesetih, dok su se u Njemačkoj razvile u devedesetima. Zahvaljujući velikim prednostima vlakova velikih brzina mreža brzih željeznica u Njemačkoj se je razvijala jako brzo. Trenutno je jedna od vodećih sila u tom području . Zahvaljujući njezinom razvoju javila se velika potražnja za daljnjim unapređenjem vlakova i mreže kako bih se postigla što veća komocija putnika, broj prevezenih putnika, što lakši i učinkovitiji transport robe te što veća sigurnost.

    Sustav vlakova velikih brzina predstavlja veliki iskorak naspram konvencionalnog željezničkog sustava. Razvoj sustava započeo je 1829. godine izgradnjom brze lokomotive „Rocket“. Danas sustavom vlakova velikih brzina prometuju moderna i udobna vozila brzinom od oko 300 km/h. Osim velike brzine, ovaj sustav ima i velike pozitivne organizacijske i eksploatacijske učinke. Sustav omogućava bolje iskorištenje vlakova, veći učinak radnog osoblja i bolju uslugu korisnicima. To je vidljivo u mnogim svjetskim sustavima velikih brzina jer ih danas koriste milijarde putnika. Sustav predstavlja velike financijske prednosti. U svim analiziranim eksploatacijskim troškovima ovaj sustav predstavlja financijski povoljniji sustav posebno u usporedbi sa konvencionalnim željezničkim sustavom. The high speed railway system presents big step comparing with conventional railway system. Development of this system started in 1829. with fast locomotive “Rocket”. Today, this system is operated by modern and comfortable vehicles which operates at 300 km/h. Except high speed, this system has positive organizational and exploitation characteristics. System allows better use of trains, higher performance of operating stuff and better service for the customers. That is obvious in many high speed train systems in the world which are used by billions of passengers. System present the big economic benefits. In all exploitation cost that are analyzed in this thesis, this system present financial benefits especially when is compared with conventional railway system.

    [Abstract:] The design of high-speed railway lines involves geotechnical challenges, one of which is the risk of dynamic track amplification, for example on track sections where the train speed approaches the track-ground critical speed. In these cases, soil strains increase significantly with an increase in train speed, far exceeding the limits of linear elastic behaviour. This can result in a non-linear reduction of soil stiffness. To better understand this relationship, this paper studies the influence of soil non-linearity on the critical speed of concrete slab and ballasted tracks. To perform an in-depth analysis into non-linear critical speed, two models are used: a 3D FEM approach, and a novel dispersion curve technique. Using the models, the effect of soil plasticity on non-linearity is studied, with different ranges of plasticity found to play an important role. Secondly, the influence of soil thickness and loading magnitude are evaluated. It is shown that ballasted tracks are deeply affected by the non-linear soil behaviour, compared to a concrete slab track. Further, it is shown that for the ballasted tracks, the relationship between the critical speed and shallow upper soil layer thickness can be weak.     The aim of this project is to describe the development of the high-speed railway in France, the traffic and technical characteristics of the railway, its infrastructure and the various characteristics that characterize it. The project was created with a methodological approach of literature analysis on the relevant topic. The high-speed rail network began its development in France in the 1970s. The introduction of highspeed railways in France was an immediate success, competing with many forms of transport, one of which was air transport. High-speed rail in France achieved great success during the 1980s and 1990s, especially by public authorities who saw it as an initiator of economic development. Trains operating on the LGV railway in France transport about 110 million passengers every year, and in 2013 it was recorded that 2 billion passengers traveled on TGV trains since the beginning of the operation of the high-speed railway in France. Improvements to the LGV railway can take the form of new track construction, which is a strictly standardized process with precisely defined components and steps to make high-speed trains in France run in the safest possible way, or in the form of new TGV train models. Cilj ovog rada je opisati razvoj željeznice za brze vlakove u Francuskoj, prometne i tehničke karakteristike te željeznice, njezinu infrastrukturu i različite karakteristike koje je obilježavaju. Rad je nastao metodološkim pristupom analize literature o relevantnoj temi. Mreža željeznica za brze vlakove započela je svoj razvoj u Francuskoj 1970-ih godina. Uvođenje željeznice za brze vlakove u Francuskoj odmah je predstavilo ogroman uspjeh, te je konkuriralo mnogim vrstama prometa, od kojih je jedan bio i zračni promet. Željeznica za brze vlakove u Francuskoj postigla je velik uspjeh tijekom 1980-ih i 1990-ih godina, pogotovo od strane javnih vlasti koje su je smatrale pokretačem ekonomskog razvoja. Vlakovi koji prometuju LGV željeznicom u Francuskoj svake godine prevezu oko 110 milijuna putnika, te je 2013. zabilježeno kako je TGV vlakovima putovalo 2 milijarde putnika od početka rada željeznice za brze vlakove u Francuskoj.Unaprjeđenja LGV željeznice mogu biti u obliku izgradnje novih kolosijeka, što predstavlja strogo standardizirani proces s točno određenim komponentama i koracima kako bi brzi vlakovi u Francuskoj prometovali na najsigurniji mogući način, ili u obliku novih modela TGV vlakova.

    The paper briefly describes the historical development of high speed railways in the world, more specifically in Japan. The general infrastructure features of high-speed rail are mentioned and explained, particularly the track and rail fastening accessories used in Japan. It describes the railway station in Tokyo and the Seikan underwater tunnel connecting the islands of Honshu and Hokkaido. The trains that run Shinkansen lines and make the high-speed railway fleet in Japan are also mentioned and explained. U radu je ukratko opisan povijesni razvoj željeznica velikih brzina u svijetu, a opširnije u Japanu. Navedene su i objašnjene općenite infrastrukturne značajke željeznica velikih brzina, a posebno su objašnjeni kolosijeci te kolosiječni pričvrsni pribor koji se koristi u Japanu. Opisan je kolodvor u Tokyu i podvodni tunel Seikan koji povezuje otoke Honshu i Hokkaido. Opisani su vlakovi koji prometuju Shinkansen linijama i čine vozni park željeznica velikih brzina u Japanu.

    The main goal of this paper is to identify basic characteristics, and development of high-speed railway in Europe and in the world, and to describe the development of the network, infrastructure and high-speed train network in France. Based on the collected data it can be concluded that the high-speed railways in Europe were developed in the early 1980s in France. The high-speed network in France is well developed and is second in Europe, behind Spain, with the number of kilometres of high-speed rail. With the development of high-speed trains, the need for upgrading and development of the railway infrastructure has emerged. The French network is in a state of permanent change and is constantly upgraded and modernized to enhance the mobility of passengers and freight transport and to increase traffic safety. The French passenger operator today owns the highest speed trains and has a train that has set the world record in speed. Cilj rada je utvrditi temeljne značajke, nastanak i razvoj brzih željeznica u Europi i svijetu te opisati razvoj mreže, infrastrukturne značajke i vozni park brzih željeznica u Francuskoj. Na temelju prikupljenih podataka može se zaključiti da su se brze željeznice u Europi razvile početkom osamdesetih godina u Francuskoj. Mreža brzih željeznica u Francuskoj je dobro razvijena i nalazi se na drugom mjestu u Europi iza Španjolske po broju kilometara pruge velikih brzina. Razvojem vlakova velikih brzina javila se potreba za nadogradnjom i razvojem željezničke infrastrukture te je Francuska mreža u stanju trajne promjene i redovito se modernizira i nadograđuje kako bi se poboljšala mobilnost putnika i prijevoza robe te kako bi se povedala sigurnost prometovanja. Francuski operator za prijevoz putnika danas posjeduje najviše vlakova velikih brzina te posjeduje vlak koji je postavio svjetski brzinski rekord.

    The paper describes the historical development of high-speed railways in Europe, while the development in Germany is described in more detail. The development of railway infrastructure, infrastructural features and rolling stock in Germany is described. Based on research, we can conclude that high-speed railways first appeared in Japan in 1930. France was the first European country to develop high-speed railways in the early 1980s, while Germany developed them in the 1990s. Thanks to the great advantages of high-speed trains, the high-speed rail network in Germany developed very quickly. It is currently one of the leading forces in the field. Thanks to its development, there was a great demand for further improvement of the trains and the network in order to achieve the greatest possible passenger comfort, the number of transported passengers, the easiest and most efficient transport of goods and the greatest possible safety. U radu je opisan povijesni razvoj željeznica velikih brzina u Europi, dok je opširnije opisan razvoj u Njemačkoj. Opisan je razvoj željezničke infrastrukture, infrastrukturne značajke i vozni park u Njemačkoj. Na temelju istraživanja možemo zaključiti da su se brze željeznice prvo pojavile u Japanu 1930. godine. Francuska je bila prva europska zemlja koja je počela razvijati željeznice velikih brzina početkom osamdesetih, dok su se u Njemačkoj razvile u devedesetima. Zahvaljujući velikim prednostima vlakova velikih brzina mreža brzih željeznica u Njemačkoj se je razvijala jako brzo. Trenutno je jedna od vodećih sila u tom području . Zahvaljujući njezinom razvoju javila se velika potražnja za daljnjim unapređenjem vlakova i mreže kako bih se postigla što veća komocija putnika, broj prevezenih putnika, što lakši i učinkovitiji transport robe te što veća sigurnost.

    Sustav vlakova velikih brzina predstavlja veliki iskorak naspram konvencionalnog željezničkog sustava. Razvoj sustava započeo je 1829. godine izgradnjom brze lokomotive „Rocket“. Danas sustavom vlakova velikih brzina prometuju moderna i udobna vozila brzinom od oko 300 km/h. Osim velike brzine, ovaj sustav ima i velike pozitivne organizacijske i eksploatacijske učinke. Sustav omogućava bolje iskorištenje vlakova, veći učinak radnog osoblja i bolju uslugu korisnicima. To je vidljivo u mnogim svjetskim sustavima velikih brzina jer ih danas koriste milijarde putnika. Sustav predstavlja velike financijske prednosti. U svim analiziranim eksploatacijskim troškovima ovaj sustav predstavlja financijski povoljniji sustav posebno u usporedbi sa konvencionalnim željezničkim sustavom. The high speed railway system presents big step comparing with conventional railway system. Development of this system started in 1829. with fast locomotive “Rocket”. Today, this system is operated by modern and comfortable vehicles which operates at 300 km/h. Except high speed, this system has positive organizational and exploitation characteristics. System allows better use of trains, higher performance of operating stuff and better service for the customers. That is obvious in many high speed train systems in the world which are used by billions of passengers. System present the big economic benefits. In all exploitation cost that are analyzed in this thesis, this system present financial benefits especially when is compared with conventional railway system.
